By Small and Simple Things

Scriptures. Prayer.  It’s short and sweet, when you consider how to build your faith and strenghten your testimony.

Heavenly Father asks us to take care of our spirits, just as we should take care of our physical bodies. In order to keep our bodies healthy, we need to eat nutritious foods each day, get a good night’s rest, and exercise. We wouldn’t neglect our physical bodies. So why is it we sometimes neglect our spiritual health? By nurturing our faith and testimony, we strengthen and nourish the spirit.

Just as it says in the scriptures,

“Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.”

Alma 37:6

I know that as we pray to our Heavenly Father and take the time to study and ponder the scriptures our faith can grow. I believe that by small and simple things, we can become stronger people, women and men who are true disciples of Christ.

Why should we go to Church?

This is a great question! Many people might say they like to go to church or that they belong to a certain faith. But, are we really taking the time out of our crazy schedule to worship every sunday? There is so many different things to keep us from coming to church. I can see that Satan is working hard to keep us from keeping the commandments.

Think about this: everytime you pray, and every time you read your scriptures, you are choosing to follow Jesus Christ. That applies to church.Every sunday when you get up early and scramble to get your family out the door, you are choosing to follow Jesus Christ. I know that it’s not always easy and sometimes other outings or activities would tempt us to skip church, but I testify that going to church every week will bless our lives. The most important part of church attendance is sacrament meeting, when we get to renew our covenants or promises with God. It is a chance to begin each week with a fresh new start. The Atonement of Jesus Christ is there for us everyday. Renewing our covenants, helps us to remember the promises we have made our Father in Heaven. I have been able to learn and my faith and testimony has grown from coming church. I know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true and that we show are commitment to God by coming to church.

The Atonement: A Gift to the World

I have been serving my mission for 10 months and it has been quite a 10 months. March 19, 2013, I flew out to Florida along with 18 other missionaries. When the plane touched down, I looked out the window and I knew that this was where I’m supposed to be. The mission has been a refining process. Which seems to come with many challenges that we face.  It has given me an opportunity to really stand on my own two feet and learn to rely on the Lord.

And I’m still learning. I’m learning to love. I am learning to be patient. I have learned more about the Atonement. I know that to receive the full blessings of the Atonement, that I have to pray to apply the Atonement to my life. There are things that are out of my hands, things that I cannot control. I know that with the Savior’s help I can receive comfort and peace to my soul. As hard as I try to be perfect, I still need Jesus Christ. If we dismiss that we need Him, we dismiss the opportunities for growth. If we take our broken hearts to the Lord, He can heal them. I know that Jesus is the Christ. I know that He loves us and if we come unto Him that we can find greater hope, light, and peace.

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of theworld: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12

The Promise of The Book of Mormon

The Book of Mormon has brought me peace and comfort in my life. I know that this book of scripture is true and it is of God.

It has helped me to draw closer to my Father in Heaven. I have been able to gain a greater understanding of Christ’ Atonement, or His great sacrifice for us all. I testify that Christ lives! I know that we can find hope and happiness as we turn to the Savior.

“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also has become my salvation.” 2 Nephi 22:2

As a missionary and a representative of Jesus Christ I invite everyone to read The Book of Mormon and discover for themselves the truthfulness of this book. Pray from your heart and ask God if it is true. You will be able to feel the spirit of the Lord in answer to your prayer. It may not be in the time table you expect, but your answer will come. Heavenly Father loves all of His children and wants them to know what is right. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is His church restored to the earth. This gospel brings lasting happiness and joy to me and I know that as I continue to follow Christ I will be happy.
