How do you find truth?

Some people believe that it’s by grace alone that we are saved. Some people believe that you only have to believe in Jesus Christ then you are saved. But what does it really mean to be saved? There are varied ideas on this as well. How do we know which is true doctrine? How do we know when a teaching is from God?

In 1820, there was a young man named Joseph Smith, he had concerns just like these questions. He was confused by the various religions. He wrote, “so great were the confusion and strife among the different denominations, that it was impossible for a person young as I was, and so unacquainted with men and things, to come to any certain conclusion who was right and who was wrong.” (Joseph Smith—History1:8) Joseph read in the Bible and was able to receive guidance. James 1:5, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” This scripture had a great influence on him and lead him to pray about his concerns. When he prayed to God a miraculous experience happened.

In his own words he said, ” I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me. … When the light rested upon me I saw two personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!”  (Joseph Smith History 1:16-17)

Joseph Smith saw God, the Father and Jesus Christ. I know this to be true. His prayer was answered, he was told not to join any of the churches in his community. Later on, He was given the responsibility to restore Christ complete doctrine and church back to the earth. He was called to be a prophet.

I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God and because he was called of God, he was given that authority or priesthood, to restore lost truth. I firmly believe that this is Christ’ church. He is my Savior and my Redeemer. I have gained a testimony for myself of the restoration of the gospel. If you want to know for yourself if this message I’ve shared is true you can! How, is the important question here? I know that if you ask God if this is true, that God will answer your prayer. I testify that He answers our prayers and that He loves everyone!

Why being a missionary makes me smile

I love being a missionary! But really it’s one of the best responsibilities I’ve ever taken on. Ever since I was a kid I have loved sharing the gospel. I remember when I was in the sixth grade we had an assignment to do a report. We could choose any topic we wanted to do. I chose to make mine about my relgion: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I was able to do a little presentation about my report and teach my class more about my faith. For me missionary work is fun and it’s exciting! I am so happy when I get opportunities to share my beliefs with others. And as a missionary I get to do it everyday! Oh, it is sooo good! One of the best parts of being a missionary is getting to share my testimony. I really do believe that this church is true, and that Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet to restore Christ’ doctrine and church back to the earth. Since then we have been able to recieve more revelation through modern prophets to help us with our personal challenges and concerns. I am so happy because of the knowledge and faith that comes from the gospel. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and my Redeemer. I love my Savior and my Heavenly Father! I know that if we want to be happy we need to live the gospel and come unto Christ.
